It’s impossible to live in this world without noticing the destruction to the natural world that is happening all around us. It seems like I often travel past a once beautiful, forested area that has since been mowed down. The statistics are frightening. In the last 50 years, wildlife populations on average have declined by 60%, and we cut down over 15 billion trees each year. To make matters worse, studies show that fewer children than ever know the names of plants and animals.
Thankfully, smart, aware, and caring people like you recognize these problems and are motivated to contribute towards the solutions.
Environmental Protection in the Caribbean, or EPIC as we call ourselves, is part of the solution to these problems in the Caribbean region. For more than 20 years, EPIC has been at the forefront of facilitating community-based actions that protect nature, while also supporting sustainable livelihoods.
The success of EPIC's grassroots approach comes through recruiting local leaders who run and manage EPIC's programs. This provides the knowledge base and agility necessary to remain effective. In addition, there is a focus and commitment to combining scientific research, education, advocacy, and community support tools to affect positive and lasting change.
Making good on these commitments requires a great deal of financial support. As a non-profit organization, we are skilled at writing and receiving grant funding from various sources. However, approximately half of our budget comes from generous contributions from conscientious citizens of the planet like you.
On this Earth Day, I'm writing to ask that you reflect on the value and absolute necessity of EPIC's programs and services. Without a non-profit organization like ours, we have no chance to reverse these declines in biodiversity, which will save ourselves and our planet. We need your help.
With your support, we can protect the Caribbean's vital ecosystems and ensure that future generations can enjoy these beautiful and unique environments. Please, act now and provide the financial support necessary to continue our critical work.
Your donation today helps protect the Caribbean's natural heritage. On this Earth Day, you can make a difference.
